Mr. Burkett graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He brings over 15 years of experience working in multiple corporate positions and more than ten decades of experience managing other businesses. His passion for working with kids started in college. He worked as a work-study student at the Olde English Consortium (OEC), whose primary function was to provide resources to less fortunate districts through collaboration.
“The smiles we put on the kid’s faces year after year through our work are priceless.”
There was such an impact he continued working summers to help out even after starting a career. The business knowledge he’s acquired, coupled with his love for our kids, makes him a perfect fit as our Office Manager.

Art & Physical Education Teacher
Mrs. Harris loves Art and anything creative. She enjoys visiting museums, sewing, shopping, and doing arts and crafts in her spare time with her daughter. Her favorite thing to do is to teach Art to young children! Not only does she take pleasure in sharing her knowledge about creating Art with her students, but she wants all her students to experience Art and understand how much it affects their lives. Mrs. Harris is also the P.E teacher here at MCA. She loves to push students to do their very best in physical activity. She doesn’t believe in excuses, and she knows her students always try to do their best!

I graduated from Messiah College with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Science. I love working in education – promoting learning, creativity, and confidence. Outside of school, I like yarn crafts, tennis, coach swimming, and spending time with family. I love what I do and bring my whole energy to it every day.
I am excited to be a part of this wonderful family. I want to give you a little bit of a background of who I am. I began my musical education as a recorder student at the grand old age of 8. Next, I became a flute student at the age of 10 and played for over 30 years. Through college, I continued my musical education, receiving an Associate in Fine Arts in Music from Wayne Community College (1994) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (1999). I have taught flute and recorder lessons, beginning piano, and have tutored in music history and theory with previous teaching skills. I was the Weekday School Music Specialist, Director of the GraceNotes Choir, Lead Teacher for Weekday Wonders at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. I was the Music Specialist, Character Education Specialist, and 1st Grade Teacher at Thales Academy in Waxhaw, NC. Also, I currently teach at Music Quarters in Charlotte, NC. My motto is to bring happiness and joy in your life by making and exploring music. I look forward to meeting you and your child here at Monroe Charter Academy.
I am Carla Jackson, and I fell in love with education many years ago. My first experience with the desire to teach education happened when I was finishing up my bachelor’s degree at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. While as a student at Morris, I was afforded the opportunity to volunteer in the campus daycare, where my love for teaching began. That love continued to grow as I studied Maria Montessori’s work and taught Montessori lower elementary students for ten years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. During my time at CMS, I was selected as an honoree of Coca-Cola’s “Teacher of the Year” award. When I am not impacting the leaders of tomorrow, I enjoy gardening, listening to music, cooking, and travel. I am so excited to start the next chapter of my teaching career at Monroe Charter School.
